Matthew 25 – Be Prepared!

by Jill

Today we talk about Matthew 25. We explore its themes and messages, starting with the parable of the ten virgins. We examine the contrast between those who were prepared and those who were not, and highlight the importance of being ready for the return of Jesus. This parable warns us against complacency and the danger of last-minute repentance. We also emphasize the importance of focusing on the overarching message of parables rather than getting stuck on details.

We then discuss the parable of the talents, where servants are given varying amounts of money according to their abilities. This parable calls us to use our God-given abilities and gifts to their fullest extent. It is not about financial investment but how we use our skills to serve God and others. If we bury our talents out of fear or a sense of inadequacy, it represents a lack of faith in the gifts God has given us.

The final judgment, where Jesus separates the sheep from the goats, is our next point of discussion. The importance of serving others as a means of serving Christ. Our actions towards our brothers and sisters reflect our relationship with God. Jesus’ commandments to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome strangers, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and visit the imprisoned are all manageable tasks that we can all perform.
